Evan Mingo

AKA blacademics.

Welcome to my website! My name is Evan Mingo (I also go by EC) and my pronouns are they/them. Since July 2023, I have been the Project Coordinator for the longitudinal NIH-grant Teen & Dog study out of the Pets and Well-Being (PAW) Lab at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine of Tufts University.

I graduated from Yale College in May of 2022, obtaining a Bachelors of Science in Psychology and a Bachelors of Arts  in Ethnicity, Race, & Migration; both with distinction. In June of 2023, I completed a Masters of Philosophy in the Sociology of Marginality and Exclusion at King’s College, University of Cambridge fully funded by the Sidney Hellman Ehrman Studentship. My research is primarily interested in issues of race, gender, sexuality, and identity. How do our group identities affect the way we understand and operate in the world around us? How can we better connect with others with cultural humility? I hope to eventually earn a PhD in Clinical Psychology, focusing on culturally affirming therapy.

I never planned to make content. My friends have long said I could’ve been ‘vine-famous’ because of my spontaneity, but honestly it never appealed to me. My journey on TikTok actually began by accident! I had a super viral comment about disidentification on a video. People asked me to explain my research, and the rest was history!

My goal with blacademics is to provide a space of community and learning. On my social media pages, I aspire to produce high-quality and accessible educational videos related to Psychology, Sociology, History, Politics, and Writing.

I want this to be an open, collaborative space where people can learn, grow, and make mistakes. Please ask me questions on topics you think I can answer! I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt.
